First graders reviewed primary color mixing and experimented with mixing different shades and tints of colors.  They created an abstract painting and used oil pastels to add patterns in contrasting colors.  In the drawing center they practiced oil pastel smudging and blending techniques with leaf templates.  In the mixed media center, students made a collage of an owl with cut and torn paper and using books for reference.
