First graders learned about vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines, and how artists use them.  In the drawing center, they created a drawing based on the abstract geometric work of Piet Mondrian and Philip Tseng's Mondrian's Playground.  In the painting center, they used watercolor to paint buildings and houses, which they made look 3D by drawing with diagonal lines.  In the mixed media center, students created a collage of an animal in its habitat, using lines to create textures and patterns.
