After discussing the characteristics of the winter season, and how it affects the world around them, first graders used black paint and white oil pastels to create these winter forest scenes.  Large brushes were used for tree trunks, and smaller brushes for limbs and branches.  The oil pastel was used to show both highlights and fallen snow.
